On Wednesday Facebook hashtags were officially announced by Facebook. Before you get all excited and 
have fun with the new feature just to let you know that it appears it is still rolling out and not everyone has the Facebook hashtags feature.
Adding the “#”sign to a word will turn it into a clickable link which brings up a feed of what other people are saying about the same topic.
Using hashtags to identify a theme was popularised on the internet by Twitter.
Facebook said it offers a “larger view of what’s happening”. Experts said it might also aid ad sales.
Other services that support hashtags include Pinterest, Tumblr, Google+, Sina Weibo, LinkedIn and Instagram, which is owned by Facebook.
Users can now use hashtags in their status updates and in their comments. When you use a hashtag it connects you with people who are also talking about the same hashtag. So for example, in the case of me i am a big spurs football fan so when I type a status update and wants to see who else is talking about the spurs , i can simply write an update to include #Spurs then click on that link to view who else is talking about the Spurs.
